Tonoloway Farm is a Virginia tree syrup, mushrooms & nut orchard located in McDowell, Highland County, Virginia. The business has developed a loyal base of customers, both online and face-to-face through farmers markets and the annual Highland maple festival. Although Tonoloway is a small business easily managed by 1-2 people, it has become the largest producer of black walnut syrup in North America, which is a big driver of sales and attracts customers to all product lines. Annual income has varied from $120-180k in recent years, depending on production and market engagement. The farm sits on the hillsides of the historic McDowell Battlefield, boasting incredible views of the near by town of McDowell and the Bullpasture River Valley. The owners have gone to great extents to preserve the property's agricultural viability through work with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Virginia Outdoor Foundation, and their own efforts of tapping 2000+ trees on the farm. The farm's spring has recently been improved with an new 1700 gallon reservoir, and a back up well. A newly installed solar array supplies 4.1kw of power with direct supply capability. A impressive, timber framed 2600 sq. ft workshop offers great business expansion.
