The Gower House is listed with the Natl Register of Historic Places and Ky Historical Society. Located at the confluence of the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers, it was originally built in 1780 as a luxury hotel to accommodate travelers on the Ohio River. Mark Twain, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson and Clara Barton have been associated with the Gower House. It is even said to have been part of the underground railroad! As in its original character, the Gower House lacks the modern amenities of electricity and running water. The windows have been boarded to protect the windows that are in place and prevent further damage to the property. Inside will definitely require some TLC to make habitable but this place is an amazing tribute to local history.
