Located on Knox Street, just two blocks from the Court Square, the **First State Bank Building** is a significant landmark in Barbourville's commercial history. Built around 1910, this three-story masonry and wood-frame structure is a prime example of Romanesque Revival architecture, designed and constructed by Ed Dishman for Charles and Nell Mitchell. The building's Romanesque brick arch entry, and intricate brickwork reflect the craftsmanship and architectural style of the early 1900s.The façade is divided into two vertical bays, with paired windows in one bay and a single window above the entry. Painted stone lintels and sills complement the structure, which sits on an exposed stone foundation that adds to its historic charm. Inside, the ground floor originally housed the First State Bank, while the second floor served as office space and the third floor was used for apartments. Remarkably, the building has remained largely unaltered, maintaining its original character inside and out.In need of some repair, this beautiful structure is on the National Register of Historic Places and is being sold as-is.
