BEZMIALEM VALIDE SULTAN FOUNTAIN A fountain located on Spor Street between Beşiktaş and Maçka was built by Bezmialem Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdülmecid. This four-sided building in empirical style, built entirely of marble on a square plan with a cube body, is one of the most magnificent and beautiful examples of the last period fountain architecture. A grooved pilaster with a doric capital, which defines the symmetrical regular facades of the fountain on both sides and on which horizontal joints are drilled to create an artificial texture difference, is engraved above, the facades of which are composed of frieze and stepped mouldings, carrying the outward overflowing eaves. The faucet tray with the mirrorstone in the rectangular niche formed from the stepped mouldings has an empire-style teyzinat. On the tap table, which is enclosed in a rectangular frame with a moulding, a rosette hitting the central loophole and corn braided with symmetrically embroidered leaves are embroidered on both sides of this bozet. The vessel of the fountain is slightly convex curved and there are no ornamental elements on it. On the shapes on both sides of the boat, the decoration on the tap table was applied exactly. There are only two inscriptions on the two facades of the fountain and on the mirrorstone, framed by stepped mouldings. An inscription dated 1255 / 1839 is engraved with a calligraphy of celi ta on five lines, and one of his poems belongs to Şükrü and the other to Ziver. There is an oval medallion with Sultan Abdülmecid's tughra on the frieze that turns the fountain into a frieze and in the middle. The fountain, which was fed by the water coming from the Mahmud II Bend, was later connected to the Hamidiye water, respectively. In front of the fountain, which underwent a restoration in 1958, a bomb exploded in 1984 and the structure was badly damaged. After this event, the fountain, which was repaired by the Department of National Palaces of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1985, is quite intact today.
