Dinis, Poet King, when he passed through this village, until then called Pvoa d'lem Sabor , was enchanted and surrendered to the beauty of the landscape and, in 1286, lovingly renamed it Vila Flor . Around 1295, King Dinis ordered a series of walls to be erected around it, to protect it, with 5 gates or arches. What remains is the Arch of D. Dinis, a monument of public interest.The Middle Ages of this bouquet of cravelinas and bem-me-queres , as Cabral Ado called it, is flourishing, receiving a special boost with the welcoming of Jewish families fleeing European persecution and who developed agriculture, trade and the tanning and goldsmith industries. King Manuel I later attributed a new charter to Vila Flor, reformulating the previous one, in May 1512, which can be seen in the Museu Municipal D.ra Berta Cabral.
