The Bernardas Convent Monastery, located in our beautiful city of Tavira, was built in 1509 by King Manuel I in thanksgiving for the lifting of the siege of Arzila, and was later ceded in 1530 to the nuns of the Cistercian Order, having been the largest female religious house in the region. It also operated as a factory and was later renovated, becoming a housing complex. Its entire history and architecture were restored by the hands of architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and earned him the European Prize for Intervention in Architectural Heritage in 2017. The innovative residential project has 78 apartments from studios to three-bedroom apartments, maintaining the original layout of the façades and the Manueline and religious architectural style of the period. With a unique and privileged view over the Tavira salt pans, as well as of the various species of birds that inhabit our Ria Formosa, the convent is located just a few meters from the historic city center and the main services and shops. Have you ever imagined waking up to an unobstructed view of nature? The gated community, surrounded by gardens, fountains and with indoor parking, also has two saltwater swimming pools, the largest measuring 400m2, and a changing room. The three-storey apartment consists of a suite on the ground floor, with a bathtub and views of the salt pans. On the first floor, we find the open-plan living room and kitchenette. And the 2nd floor consists of a mezzanine bedroom with a bathroom. The entire property is equipped with air conditioning, electric blinds/blackouts and Santa Catarina ceramic and wooden flooring, and white marble bathrooms, creating a space of harmony between the materials.
