Seia is a Portuguese city in the district of Guarda, located in the province of Beira Alta, Centro region (Região das Beiras) and sub-region of Serra da Estrela, with about 5,300 inhabitants. [1]

It is the second largest city in the district of Guarda, belongs to the Intermunicipal Community of Beiras and Serra da Estrela and is roughly equidistant between the cities of Guarda and Viseu.

It is the seat of the municipality of Seia with an area of 435.69 km²[2] and 24,702 inhabitants (2011),[3][4] subdivided into 21 parishes. [5]

The municipality of Seia is, together with those of Covilhã and Manteigas, one of the municipalities that share the Tower (Serra da Estrela), the highest point in mainland Portugal and the second highest point in the country, only behind Pico Mountain, in the Azores.
