The first written reference to the name Pinhal Novo is from March 27, 1959, in an article published in the newspaper O Cisne do Sado .The first truly important public act for the life of the locality takes place on July 18, 1872, it is the donation made by Jos Maria dos Santos, to the population of Pinhal Novo of a land for the construction of a chapel and for the realization of the festivities. The donation was signed by the residents, by Antnio Domingos Macau and Jos Nogueira de Faria.The construction work of the church had begun on the eve of the signing of the donation document and was completed in 1874, with the first mass being celebrated on February 2 of the same year.Meanwhile, the village of Pinhal Novo was evolving.
