Reserved! Cerca Da Tras is a traditional Monchique mountain house, stone built in local granite. It is located on a peacefully positioned hillside facing south towards the Algarve coast. It is a haven for wildlife of all sorts, including deer. The town of Alferce is a five minute drive away and Monchique is no more than ten minutes. The main house has spacious accommodation, with a large Living room with a substantial wood burning stove, and a high ceiling. This leads to a dining Kitchen, which is stylishly outfitted with granite worktops and contemporary cupboard fittings. The cooker is gas and electric, and there is a dishwasher and undercounter fridge. There are two Bedrooms each with ensuite bathrooms. The Bedrooms have fitted cupboards built in Chestnut wood which was sourced and crafted locally. The windows and beams supporting the roof are also crafted from the local Chestnut timber in a traditional manner. The main house has water borne under floor heating, using a gas fired boiler, while additional heating is provided by the wood burning stove ( the wood is freely available on the estate, with a bit of effort). The house is supplied with three phase electricity, and a telephone line is available. There is a plentiful supply of natural water, from a borehole and three separate mines which is continuous throughout the year. There are two large cisterns for storing water. Additional accommodation is provided in a large detached studio room with its own shower room. There is an attached Carport next to the main house and a separate Garage storeroom and covered area for a tractor. Close by the house is a substantial orchard, with oranges , lemons, figs grapes, olives and many other fruits which provide a wonderful seasonal bounty. The rest of the land which extends to a little less than three hectares, is mostly covered with Cork Oak trees, with small areas of Carob and Arbutus, the fruit of which is used for the production of Medronho the local spirit. There are south facing terraces which could have potential for a vineyard. The driveway down to the house is paved with granite sets (calcadas), which blend in beautifully with the general landscape from which they are produced. The front of the house has a large terrace covered by a vine clad pergola. A wood fired oven provides a wonderful opportunity to cook el fresco using the amazing ingredients that the country provides.
