Located in a historical area of relevance, near the aqueduct of Santo Antão do Tojal and Mitra Palace, with an arcade of about two kilometers long, integrating the Monumental Set of Santo Antão do Tojal, it was built under the direction of Antonio Canevari in 1728, therefore, before the Aqueduct of Águas Livres.

The aqueduct, originating in Pintéus, supplied water to the Quinta and Palácio da Mitra, owned by the patriarchate of Lisbon.

The Aqueduct fed two fountains: the public fountain, at the top of the village, next to the road to São Julião do Tojal, and the monumental fountain, arranged at the top of a staircase of Italian taste, consisting of the sink, tank and spouts.
