The villages of Esquio and Pessegueiro and the surrounding area of around 300 hectares are located in the parish of Espinhal, Penela.
Esquio is located on the spur of the Serra do Espinhal, at an altitude of 750 metres. It has 65 houses, a public fountain and a small chapel whose patron saint is Santa Quitéria. Pessegueiro has 64 dwellings and is located at an altitude of 550 metres.
Both villages have been abandoned for around 23 years.
