The Parish Council of Campo and Sobrado is the new organic structure of the local administration of the Union of Parishes of Campo and Sobrado under Law No. 11-A/2013, of January 28, which proceeds to the administrative reorganization of the territory of the parishes, through the creation of parishes by aggregation or alteration of territorial limits.
Although this new configuration is a recent reality, the parishes of Campo and Sobrado have their own history and cultural heritage.
Of obscure origins, S. Martinho do Campo is mentioned in the inquiries of 1258 and, even today, the name of the parish is misleading. Pinho Leal considered it of Celtic origin and, perhaps to distinguish it from the homonymous of Santo Tirso and other lands of S. Martinho, the patron saint was omitted here, and there is a memory of it in the year 797.
According to the Moderate Corography of the Kingdom of Portugal of 1875, S. Martinho do Campo was referred to with the name of Recezinhos de Ponte Ferreira, as belonging to the Abbey of the Convent of Vilela, which later passed to the jurisdiction of the Bishop and was integrated into the then Municipality or Judge of Aguiar de Sousa.
In the simple and believing people, legends and traditions abound in a sense of religious life, characteristic of a healthy rurality. With free hands, predisposed to work, these hardworking people knew how to take advantage of the natural riches of their land by exploiting slate, quartzite, antimony, wolfram from the subsoil, using the power of the water of their Ferreira River to cultivate the land  producing corn, wine, beans, potatoes, vegetables  to promote wealth-creating industries, such as milling,  bakery, textiles, processing of slates, furniture or metalworking, and intensify, in a different way, the commercial circuits. In short, he knew how to build progress and guarantee the future.
In turn, the Parish of Santo André de Sobrado, in 1879, had "a beautiful house for the Royal School of Primary Education, a good cemetery and an elegant Church, but a serious lack of a tower for the bells".
The minutes of September 13, of that same year, give the news that "from Rio de Janeiro a good patrician, the Ill.mo Snr. Jozé dos Santos Ferreira, landowner and capitalist... that having an immense desire to benefit the Church where he was baptized, and knowing the great need of a tower for the placement of bells and clocks, comes... to make available to it the amount of seven hundred thousand reis".
From the General Inquiries of 1258 we know that the current municipality was divided, at the time, between the Judiciary of Aguiar de Sousa  which included S. Martinho de Campo and Sobrado  and the Judiciary of Maia, where S. Vicente da Queimadela, Valongo and S. Lourenço de Asmes were incorporated.
With the creation of the Municipality of Valongo, in 1836, the parishes of Campo and Sobrado were created. In 2001, the villages of Campo and Sobrado were elevated to Vila.
After the administrative reorganization process, and the municipal elections of September 29, 2013, the Parish Council of Campo and Sobrado came to life.
