We are pleased to present the exclusive sale of Masseria Grande, in the Municipality of Surano (Le). 
The name well describes the size of this beautiful building that revolves around a central tower 12 meters high, with a string course separating the ground floor from the first floor, four machicolations in correspondence with the windows, one on each side, on the first floor. 
A corbeled frame with corbels, decorated with Aragonese-style reliefs, to soften the harsh military decorations of the machicolations, from which pitch and sand could be thrown in order to defend one's possessions from attacks by pirates and brigands. 
The Torrione may have been built around the thirteenth century. Like a single room in which the farmer found shelter. The continuous raids of Saracen pirates on the coasts of Salento has seen the entire appearance of the Masseria changed several times. 
Wells, washhouses, drinking troughs, ovens and stables, all impeccably organized, enclosed by a wolf wall that is still preserved intact in several sections around the courtyard of the farm. 
In the 1745 land registry of Tricase, the Masseria is owned by Francesco Gallone, Prince of Tricase, and has passed several times as the property of nobles of the time. 

Today the Masseria Grande maintains some aspects of the rocky environment unchanged and is a symbol of the fortification and defense systems for civil use of the lower Salento, of a not so distant time. 
Inside the property there is a shed and a more recently built house, which in a new renovation project would lend themselves well to a spa area, the first, and an independent housing unit the second.
