The sandy coastal strip from Marina di Ugento to Santa Maria di Leuca is rich in freshwater springs that flow into the sea. Many are present, in particular, between the beaches of Pescoluse and Torre Vado. These water springs create real 'bagnarole' (natural freshwater spring reservoirs). 
The Marina di Pescoluse is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Europe. In fact, every year, its golden sandy beaches, its crystal-clear waters with shallow waters and the Mediterranean maquis, often also present on the sand dunes, make it a popular destination for many tourists and travellers.
