Home! That is without a doubt the best key word regarding this lovely and enchanting property. As soon as you come into the gate and arrive in front of the house the world outside starts to fade. Tall trees frame the view of the olive grove below and the hills in the far of distance.  The old farmhouse boasts lot of charm as well as character. Fortunately it has remained very authentic and could very well be used for a romantic movie! The outdoor areas and land can the perfect backdrop for any of this movie's scenes. The house

As all ancient country homes also this home once was just an old farmhouse. The rectangular shape indicates it was probably one of several  workers homes of a large farm. At that time the ground floor consisted mainly of stables whereas the top floor harboured the living quarters. A silent witness of that era is the old trough in the living room, where the animals used to be tied up a long time ago. The ample yet cosy kitchen could come straight out of a country life magazine. The large fireplace is an eye catcher and the space is definitely large enough to host an intimate dinner. The formal dining room, between the kitchen and living can double as a study or games room, it all depends of the buyer's needs and wishes.

The first floor harbours 3 spacious double bedrooms as well as a more modest room which however still fist a queen bed. Two independent bathroom are located off the hallway, both offer a shower but the larger one could easily fit a nice bath tub as well.

The ceilings throughout the house are all made with wooden beams and pianelle (bricks), the floors with bricks and tiles. The overall finishes are purposely vintage, giving the house a very warm and special character.

On the right size of the house lies a covered porch with a wood oven, perfect for summer time cooking. To the left lies a large workshop which gives access to the Etruscan era cave which is hidden behind the house. It would be possible to use this potential and turn the space into for example a stunning wine cellar.

The land

Included in the property is a total of 1 ha of land.  It's easiest to imagine it as half a circle with the house a the bulls eye facing in the south east direction. In front of the house lies a substantial gravel area which is a great location for summer time drinks, meals relaxing and entertaining. The land has just the right size to wander and explore, the different levels, twists and turns harbour various siting areas. Some are secluded for a quiet moment while others show off the wide view. The olive trees produce enough olive oil for a family to enjoy for a year till the next harvest. It is possible to build a pool, and the extensive lawn below the house might be just the perfect spot for that!

The surroundings

Porano is a small town in the green hills just south of Orvieto. From the house it is easily reached on foot for an Italian style breakfast, the groceries, an aperitif at the local bar or  even a tasty dinner at one of the restaurants. Orvieto is the nearest bigger city and widely known for its beautiful cathedral as well as the bustling historic center.  The underground city, weekly market,  cultural events, shops, restaurants and of course the Umbria Jazz winter edition are still just a tip of the veil of what this town has to offer. With the train station and access to the A1 highway exploring the rest of Italy is as easy as can be.

Other nearby cultural treasures are  Bolsena 17 km, Todi, 40 km Montefiascone 28 km, Civita di Bagnoregio 21 km, also known as the dying city, and of course fabulous Viterbo a mere 40 km away. The nearest international airport is Perugia 82 km,  followed by Siena 138 km and Rome 155 km.
