Location

On this beautiful coastline there are lots of seaside towns to discover. The  popular seaside towns Marina di Castellenata and Ginosa Marina are both only 3 km away with lots or restaurants and beach clubs. Taranto the second biggest city in Puglia known as the City of Two Seas for its unique location between the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo is just 30 km away. It  is famous for its incredible archaeological and historical heritage. Some must-see places to visit in Taranto include The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto, The Aragonese Castle and The Cathedral of San Cataldo. TarantoS cuisine reflects its maritime wealth with a strong emphasis on seafood. The piers of Tarantos old port are lined with fishing boats. Every morning the famous fresh Taranto mussels are sold on the quays along with the freshly landed catch of the day. There are no shortage of fabulous restaurants where you can sample the local delicacies and the prices here are much lower than the more well known tourist towns in Puglia.                                                         The incredible Matera is also with in easy reach, just 35 km away. Famous for its sassi and stunning landscapes as recently showcased in the Bond Movie No Time To Die,  Matera is  not only breathtaking  but fascinating: Its history goes back more than 30,000 years. Matera has a rich culinary tradition and there are lots of fabulous restaurants to discover, along with boutique hotels and cosy bars located in the vast caves or overground with stunning views of the ravine and the magnificent sassi.  This is a town not to be missed !

The Ionian coast to the south is characterised  by white sandy beaches and Mediterranean scrub. Main resorts and villages are Torre Lapillo and Porto Cesareo which has a protected marine area and is a lively  tourist spot  with 17 Km of beaches facing an archipelago of small islands.

Heading south we encounter other lovely places like the natural reserve of Porto Selvaggio. Santa Maria al Bagno, famous for its thermal baths and its roman harbor , Santa Caterina, where the coast shows an Arabic architectural style. Gallipoli, the pearl of the Ionian Sea with the old part of the town located on a small island and connected to the main land through an ancient bridge.

The most  southern point of the Salento is Santa Maria di Leuca. The town of Leuca was believed by Julius Caesar to be the last town in the world. Leuca is washed by the two wonderful seas and is enriched by noble mansions and villas of various architectural styles.

Heading north this time along the Adriatic coast the landscape changes with long stretch of coast of extraordinary beauty and unspoiled nature, characterised by cliff which fall sheer into the sea and alternate with inlets and natural coves and grottoes. In the beautiful town of Castro, in front of a deep blue sea, there are the most beautiful rocky grottoes, the Zinzulusa grottoes with the entrance facing the sea. This stretch of coast is famous for the clear deep blue sea and the possibility of deep-sea diving.

Near Castro is Santa Cesarea Terme, a town with a major spa complex since Roman times. The journey continues up the coast where we find the city of Otranto overlooking the sea. Otranto is the easternmost city in Italy it was an important fortified town in Roman times and it still preserve an old city center of extraordinary historic beauty. Today it is one of the main tourist destinations on the Adriatic Sea and thousands of tourists descend every year to its beaches.

Leaving the coast and moving towards the inner land we find Lecce, the capital of Lecce Province and heart of Salento. It is a stunning city and is a must-see capital of Baroque architecture it is called the Florence of the South.

Further north you will find lots of other areas of interest, such as the mile-long caves of Castellana the archaeological excavations of the Roman Egnatia by the Adriatic coastline the Trullo houses of Alberobello- a Unesco World Heritage site: the beautiful white town of Ostuni, located on top of a hill with fantastic sea views the medieval town of Oria the wealthy baroque town of Martina Franca the petite and charming Cisternino, the Zoo Safari Park of Fasano (lots of fun for children and adults alike) the caves of Polignano a Mare, well known also for its tasty ice cream and redbull cliff diving Grottaglie famous for its ceramics and old stone carvings.

GETTING HERE:

The area is served by two international airports, Brindisi is 95 km away and Bari is 85 km away.

MORE To See In APULIA:

Bari is the commercial capital city with 250,000 inhabitants and offers the best shopping a grand opera house called the Petruzzelli Teatro, and a large medical city centre with many museums. Just north of Bari lies a little town called Giovinazzo, a true gem, right by the sea. Further north is Molfetta Outlet, a famous shopping galleria, and 20 minutes further is Trani, a sophisticated town with a beautiful half-moon moon bay & marina. Continue north to Castel De Monte, the mystical castle Frederic Ii built in the 13th Century.

Within a 2,5 hour drive to the North of Bari lies Gargano, the peninsula called the spur of the Italian boot. Gargano forms a significant wildlife Reserve and offers hiking and scenic trips around the peninsula. From here, there are daily boat trips to the small Tremiti Islands.

LIFESTYLE And CULTURE:

The Italian lifestyle means many things but especially socialising the home is used for sleeping and breakfasts, and the Italians enjoy socialising and dining. There is so much you can experience, like early morning markets in the small towns. Music festivals, religious carnivals, beach life, historical tours in the main towns, cooking classes, learning a bit of Italian at language schools in Lecce, and dining at the many country and seaside restaurants.

SPORTS:

As Apulia is a peninsula surrounded by two seas- the Adriatic in the north and the Ionic in the south water sports dominate in the area: sailing, yachting, water-skiing, kite-surfing, swimming & beach life. Golf has five good courses, and San Domenico is world-class (Pga 2014 Challenge Final). Tennis, horseback riding, hiking, and bicycle tours are other options for the active-minded. Squash clubs are located in Bari, Bitonto and other places.

The WEATHER:

Being south, Apulia has warmer weather than the northern. Even in thewinter months of December to February, the average number of sun hours per day is four, and in June to August, it is 10-11 sun hours per day! This means you can enjoy a long season of nice weather in Apulia. When you plan to buy a holiday home in Apulia, you will spend a lot more time outside than inside than at home. Therefore, you will need plenty of terrace space, pergolas, etc., at your Apulian property, and outdoor cooking facilities are very practical.

The water temperature at the beginning of Ma is, on average, 19 degrees, up to 27 degrees in August/September and 19 degrees in November. This means you & family will spend time at the beach. Wherever you are in Apulia, you can reach the beaches within 30 minutes!

WHY Buy In APULIA?

Apulia has until recently been called the hidden treasure of Italy, unknown to most tourists who come & stay in Rome, Florence, Venize and the Italian Riviera. However, all this is rapidly changing because of massive investments in infrastructure, such as improved motorways, enlarged airports, and the introduction of low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. The property prices are low in Apulia, and inadequate means value for money at bargain prices for international buyers. We see more and more foreign visitors coming to Apulia. In our opinion, investments will show good growth in value because of the increased demand from the northlands as Apulia has become the most popular holiday destination for Italians. Rest assured that no tourist villages will ever be built because the Apulian coastline is protected. The local people are against modern developments which do not fit into this historical landscape. Therefore, prices are bound to rise, with increased demand for a fixed and limited number of properties.
