Masseria Papa, as it was called in the past, is a historic rural-productive complex located in the fascinating countryside of Lecce, dotted with pajare, liame, small Mediterranean's woods and settlements that recall the fervent agricultural activities of the past.
This Masseria, in particular, houses in its main body a large area once used as a semi-hypogean oil mill, with barrel vaults, stone millstones and small cisterns, dug into the rock, used to store oil. Next to the oil mill room are numerous rooms, which served as storerooms or dormitories, also characterised by beautiful star vaults and walls of local tuff.
The complex is completed by other rustic buildings arranged in a courtyard in front of the main body, some of which were used as cattle sheds in the past and are roofless due to the deterioration of the old wooden roofs.

Lecce is known as the Florence of the south, due to its typically 17th-century architectural appearance. Lecce lives on from prehistoric times, to the first civilisations, to the Middle Ages, to the Baroque, in the midst of traditions that have been handed down to the present day.
The city has very ancient origins. It has gone through two flourishing periods over the centuries. The first, is that of Roman times. The second, later, is that of the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that Lecce saw a great development in the construction of buildings, monuments and stately palaces. All characterised by sumptuous architecture rich in ornamental details, so much so that it was defined as Lecce Baroque. Unique in its kind because it took shape in the local stone, ductile and easy to inlay, pietra leccese.
Lecce is not a city that directly faces the sea, but it certainly does not lack it. In fact, the city is located a short distance from both Adriatic and Ionian seaside resorts.
