The road is empty and the car winds its way through the mountains and along the shore of the lake, overlooking the calm water, surrounded by fir trees and some alpine villages scattered here and there. We are at the Casa d'Idro, in the Municipality of Idro, on the western shore of the lake in a panoramic and sunny position, with a particularly privileged position thanks to its elevation. The oldest structure of the house dates back to the period between the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. We are talking about the fifteenth century and we immediately notice the conformation of the building, with the ground floor and its porch, the typical stables, a series of warehouses and cellars, while on the first floor, as was the custom in the past, we find the lodgings, the barns and other rooms that once served as extra deposits, but which today could be bedrooms, common areas or something else, depending on how you want to re-imagine the distribution of spaces. To crown the old farmhouse there is a fund, partly intended for grazing, partly for the production of fodder, complete with an orchard, woodland and vegetable garden. In short, an ancient farmhouse worthy of a setting for a story by Boccaccio. In fact, the farmhouse presents architectural elements and artefacts that constitute significant testimonies of lived history and local art, which in this case are also recognized as representing an immeasurable cultural and architectural value. It's been years, if not decades now, that the world has completely changed and, although one would like to tell a long story of ancient intrigues, love stories, victories and defeats, a tale worthy of an epic novel, we are forced to returning from our journey through time and realizing that, as happens in many cases, with modernity there has been the cessation of agricultural and livestock activity, leading the land to lose its particular vocation. But, as we all know, when one door closes, another opens. The current owners, dedicated to other activities, have always and in any case, in continuity with the family tradition, kept the building and the land in a good state of conservation. In fact, there have been numerous maintenance interventions relating to the main building also at a structural level and the grass has been periodically mowed, wood cut and fruit trees taken care of, keeping the entire property in good condition. In light of all this, there are many possibilities for functional recovery, from a tourist-accommodation and restaurant vocation to social health or senior housing but also purely residential, all of which obviously implies the restoration of the main building with a redistribution of the internal spaces and the feasibility assessment of the construction of new structures to increase the opportunities and services to be offered depending on the final destination. Here, along the magnificent Lake Idro, in an old house full of history and ready to welcome new and even more beautiful ones.
