The village has been designated a heritage site as it seems to have been inhabited since 700 Ad when it is recorded that it was destroyed by pirates. Most of the buildings have preserved to this date part of their original construction dating back to the Byzantine times, the Venetian and the Turkish periods. In the Langos ravine, in addition to the Kryonerida cave, there is also the Kalamato cave, which is a labyrinthine cave with small chambers, escarpments, stalactites and stalagmites. Traces of habitation have been identified as dating back to the Neolithic and Hellenistic eras.
