Aroni is a small community located on the Akrotiri peninsula about 11 km from Chania, on the way to the airport. Its name came from a Venetian nobleman and in fact has been registered since the time of the Venitian rule (around 1580) and enjoys amazing views to Souda bay. Akrotiri is a peninsula adjacent to the city of Chania where the International airport, Ioannis Daskalogiannis, is located but also the port of Chania, Souda where the ferries connect daily Chania to Piraeus. Along the road that leads from Chania to the airport you will come across the tomb of Eleftherios Venizelos (popular politician of the previous century) overlooking the city of Chania and the Lefka Ori mountains.
