A Directoire-era dwelling, perched atop one of the most well-known villages in the Puisaye region, two hours from Paris in the Yonne department. The town's many streets and alleyways are an invitation to stroll through neighbourhoods lined with numerous manor houses, some of which are quite massive, topped with their original bourguignon roofs, while the chateau and the dark mass of its ovoid ironstone keep rising above the bedrock are visible in the distance.Opposite the Saracen tower, the property - built in the 18th century and referred to in the archives as the 'old chateau' - is surrounded by multi-century ramparts and, thanks to its location, enjoys unobstructed views of the village. A large painted metal gate topped with spikes, recently restored by seasoned artisans and supported by two ashlar stone pillars, marks the entrance to the property. A pedestrian door, also made out of metal and flanked by two pillars, stands adjacent, while a white gravel path leads to the house's front steps.The dwelling's architecture is both understated and refined with roughcast stone exteriors that are cadenced by many symmetrical large-paned casement windows and glass double doors, which are, in turn, framed by ashlar stone surrounds and safeguarded with wooden louvred shutters. In addition, hayloft dormer windows punctuate the house's bell-cast hipped roof covered in flat Burgundy tiles, features all characteristic of the Puisaye region.With abundant vegetation, scattered here and there with a variety of trees and flowering shrubs, an old stately well keeps watch over the ramparts, while, off to one side, there is a lime-plastered stone outbuilding, in which it is possible to park several vehicles, as well as a small, well-tended vegetable garden. Lastly, behind the house, the installation of a historically accurate fountain has been planned and will be placed directly in line with the entrance gallery.
