Le Vieil Hopital is a captivating artist's retreat nestled within the quaint village of Caromb, in the heart of Provence. It is also an exceptional family home overing large living spaces, ideal for a large family or for those that love to entertain. This unique establishment is housed within a 500-year-old former convent, steeped in rich history and offering an unparalleled experience.


Dating back to approximately 1500, Le Vieil Hopital originally served as a refuge for pilgrims journeying along the path to Saint Jacques de Compostelle. In 1683, the convent was transformed when three young nuns from the Order of the Augustine took residence, establishing the Covent of the Holy Family. These visionary women, renowned for their progressive medical expertise, gradually shaped the convent into a reputable hospital (hôpital). By 1764, the nuns' contributions were honored when they were summoned to serve under the Evèque of Carpentras (the bishop). Despite evolving into a hospital, the convent retained its tradition of welcoming travelers until 1922. During World War Ii, it became a sanctuary for members of the resistance movement, further embedding its legacy in history.


Today, Le Vieil Hopital comprises three distinct apartments complemented by a music studio space, an artist's workshop, and an art gallery, boasting an expansive total interior space of over 700m2. The ground floor also contains an old chapelle and extensive vaulted cellars. Each apartment features private terraces and gardens, offering a total of around 250m2 of serene outdoor retreats amidst the picturesque surroundings of Provence. The living accommodation has been sympathetically renovated so as to maintain the historic charm of the setting.
