In Vaunage, south of Nîmes, a 19th century winegrower's house. A few steps from the centre of the village, the southern part of the property has a long stone wall, interrupted in the centre by a metal gate painted a soft green, framed by two imposing limestone columns. Behind the wall, a dense green screen, made up of Mediterranean trees and shrubs, partly hides an imposing winegrower's house, built in the heart of a 2,500 m² plot of land. Rectangular in shape and raised on two levels, the house comprises three communicating spaces of distinct uses, most of which can be lived in and for the rest convertible. It is accompanied, on the east side, by an outbuilding, a shed divided into two parts. The first, bordering the street to the south, still houses old winemaking vats. The second, attached to the north wall, has remained in a raw state. The facades of the building are heterogeneous, mixing areas of blond stone with visible heads with sections of rubble covered with lime or cement plaster. The windows are straight and some of the frames are made of dressed stone. The roof, recently renovated, is made of canal tiles, with a double slope for the main building and a lean-to for the outbuilding, highlighted by a two- or three-row cornice. Finally, in the western part of the property, there is a garden, entirely surrounded by a remarkably preserved stone wall. It houses a small stone outbuilding, now converted into an outdoor dining room, as well as a well. The abundant and varied vegetation forms an oasis of freshness, which is particularly appreciable in summer.
