 Villar's location is not chosen at random. There were still vestiges of previous civilizations in ancient Vallata, a pre-Roman settlement, now a strategic point of the Roman road that linked such important cities as Astúrica Augusta, Bílbilis, Cesaraugusta and Tarraco.
In the Early Middle Ages, at the dawn of Villar, this road became a path for pilgrims who went to the recently discovered tomb of the Apostle Saint James in Compostela.
Since then, and today, with the tradition happily recovered, this Camino de Villar is once again the chosen path for pilgrims and walkers. Without a doubt, the passage of such a pious stream of pilgrims to Compostela had a decisive influence on those first settlers of Villar when it came to looking for a heavenly protector: Santiago would be their patron. Currently in its demarcation is the depopulated area of Cazuminos, of which, as a vestige, only a triangular fountain of large limestone stones remains.
