Buitrago del Lozoya is a municipality located in the autonomous community of Madrid, Spain. The municipality, which has a population of 1854 inhabitants (INE 2017), gets its name from the Lozoya River, which surrounds the town. The urban morphology of Buitrago is closely related to its historical circumstance. The oldest nucleus is "la Villa", that is, the highest part within the walled enclosure (which could date back to the Arab era).
