The village extends along the banks of the river Ebro. Whether you arrive from Amposta or from the Lo Passador bridge, Calle Mayor crosses it from part to side. Today this road is the main axis of the town, where most shops and restaurants meet. It is the church street, where the pubilles, the band and the oxen pass through the festivities, the processions at Easter, the floats for Carnival... Sant Jaume has about 3,600 inhabitants, among its most remarkable buildings are "Lo Xalet", in the middle of the town; and other constructions of traditional architecture that preserve some of the rural elements such as wells, cisterns and wood ovens.
