Come And See? The!!! Palafrugell is a municipality with more than 23,000 inhabitants located in the Baix Empordà region. The city is made up of the administrative nucleus, in the interior, and near the coast the nuclei of Llafranc, Calella and Tamariu, which are currently active tourist centres, as well as the nucleus of Llofriu, at the foot of the Gavarres, and the neighbourhoods of Santa Margarida and Ermedàs halfway between the sea and the plain where the city is located. Located between the easternmost foothills of the Gavarres and the mountains of Begur, the lands that make up the current nucleus of Palafrugell were from time immemorial a marshy place where water abounded and any type of habitat was scarce. The oldest in the municipality is located in the Torrents area, in Llafranc, where we can still see the dolmen of Can Mina today. A privileged location, on the cape of San Sebastián, an imposing mountain that falls 165 meters above the sea at its highest point, favored the establishment of a small Iberian settlement in the sixth century BC. From there, the Iberians controlled the sea, but also the inland lands. Archaeological excavations have uncovered huge silos, a significant element of the site, which demonstrate the importance of agriculture for its inhabitants, as well as livestock and especially fishing. Other activities also stood out, such as the exploitation of quarries, crafts and trade with Greek and Italic peoples, as evidenced by the numerous imported pieces that have been located. Its natural environment is predominant, essentially, by the Gavarres massif and the Begur mountains, which are protected areas as they are places of natural interest that are located within the Pla de la Generalitat (Pein). However, the coast is also so steep which has caused the formation of many coves and capes, such as the Cap de San Sebastián. In this town there are Assets of Cultural Interest catalogued by the Generalitat de Catalunya, these are the Tower of Sant Sebastià (watchtower built in the fifteenth century), the Tower of Can Mario (a reservoir regulating water pressure) and the Beach of Port Bo.
