Villa Pierina was born as the highest expression of those who have made it in life. At the beginning of the 20th century, Francesco Avanzini, a successful emigrant from Curia in Argentina, decided to build Villa Pierina. The villa was supposed to represent in a tangible way the spirit of return to the native country of those who had achieved well-being and status with emigration to Argentina. At that time, the architect Giuseppe Bordonzotti, a protagonist on the Ticino scene of the Art Nouveau style of Eclecticism, was contacted to take care of the project. An intense exchange between Ticino and Buenos Aires of projects, variants, observations, etc., began. At that stage, the client's desire for the building to reflect American customs often clashed with the desire of the architect Bordonzotti to make local values prevail. Finally, in 1909, the construction of Villa Pierina began. Completed in 1910, the villa takes its name from the daughter of Francesco Avanzini. Later purchased by a large German family, the building was entirely and finely renovated with noble materials, giving it back the grandeur it deserved. Prestigious Art Nouveau building of the early '900 and cataloged as a cultural asset, Villa Pierina dominates the village of Curio with its regal elegance. Entirely renovated in 2012 using noble and luxurious materials, the villa with its four floors characterized by large and bright rooms is well characterized as a refined representative residence. High ceilings, large chandelier chandeliers, herringbone walnut parquet, inlaid fireplaces, noble materials, internal elevator, frescoed facades as originally, are just some of the valuable elements of Villa Pierina. Its south-east faade, also thanks to the large terraces, offers a wonderful view of nature, the village and Lake Lugano. The park houses a large heated swimming pool with sunbathing area and the villa is accessed through two side avenues that once again underline the majesty of this magnificent historic residence. Today, Villa Pierina is waiting for a new owner to live it and continue its history.
