“The Armoury” and “The Sargeant’s Quarters” are character cottages representing some of the earliest examples of conjoined worker’s cottages in Tasmania.  

Detailed history on these charming cottages is somewhat alluring, but information provided to us indicates that the cottages may well have been constructed Circa 1823 and we are led to believe that the Overseer of the Convicts constructing the historic Richmond Bridge may have resided here.

Beyond the picket fence at the front, the sandstone front steps have the worn character of thousands of footsteps over the last 2 centuries.  Inside, each of the cottages welcomes you with its quaint living room and open fireplace.  In addition to the living, each cottage has 1 queen bedroom and a kitchen in the original section.  An extension has been added to each of the cottages (estimated to be around the 1980s) and this extension accommodates a casual living/dining, together with bathroom and laundry. 

The cottages are on one Title (though Stratum Title may be possible STCA) and separated completely from each other by a fire wall.  The cottages are approved for (and currently provide) visitor accommodation but you may like to live in one and have income from the other.  There is the potential that they could be opened and used as 1, 2 bedroom cottage and this then presents the possibility for further development of another dwelling on the 749m2 block (subject to Council and Heritage approval).  Located within a stone’s throw of the Richmond Bridge and an easy, and almost level walk through the historic Richmond Village, the cottages are in a prime location to continue as guest accommodation however, you may prefer to live in one and have income from the other.
