The historic White's Corner Store Complex c. 1837.

20 Alexander Street, Bothwell, Tas 7030
White's Corner is a remarkable collection of historic colonial buildings awaiting an energetic buyer seeking a directional change in life. Currently, the two residential buildings on the site are used as a successful accommodation venture however, one can be used as a private residence. The number of outbuildings including the Granary, Woolshed and Barn can be developed in ways only limited by the imagination. Whatever you decide, this property presents an exciting opportunity, in one of Tasmania's important historic Georgian townships – Bothwell.

The story of White's Corner begins in 1817, when Thomas Hopkins, a London shoemaker, was transported at age 18 after being sentenced for 7 years for stealing a coat. After serving time in Van Dieman's Land, Hopkins acquired the land in Bothwell in the 1830s where he built his cottage and started a business. In 1842, John White bought the dwelling and associated buildings. White expanded by building the shopfront and dwelling. The buildings standing today include the main store and residence, the original cottage, a bakery with brick ovens, the Granary, a Wool store, Butcher's room, the Skin shed, Stables, Cart shed, Dairy and Piggery. The Whites continued running the store until the late 1980s. Today it is utilised as a unique accommodation venture.

The property is situated opposite the Queen's Square on 2 tiles of 708m2 (approx.) and 827m2 (approx.). The main corner store includes the large shop front with the original shelving and counter, 2 large bedrooms, living room, storage rooms, country kitchen, laundry, toilet and the original bakery. The upstairs consists of a further 2 bedrooms, informal living room and bathroom.

The original Weatherboard shop, believed to be the oldest in Tasmania is a residential cottage, comprising of 2 bedrooms, bathroom, charming country kitchen, dining and living room. The rooms retain many original architectural details including fireplaces, wide hand sawn floorboards, fine colonial fenestration, cedar joinery and pine lined ceilings. The interiors are stylistically beautiful and the soft paint hues give a calming and relaxing effect. The garden has expansive lawns and established trees.

White's is located in the historic township of Bothwell on the River Clyde and known for its numerous heritage listed buildings from quaint sandstone cottages to large homesteads, stores, churches, cafes, parklands and the country pub. The town, established by Scottish settlers in the 1820's, has a wonderful community and is home to Ratho – Australia's oldest golf course, and the Castle Hotel – licensed since 1829. The highland lakes nearby offer some of the best trout fishing in the world. Town services include the sporting oval, schooling from kindergarten – Year 12, and the Post Office. Hobart and Hobart airport is only 1 hour away.

White's Corner Store not only represents a remarkable and affordable collection of colonial buildings, but the unique complex of historic buildings offer endless possibilities including an antique centre, artist studio, distillery, heritage accommodation, or a unique country residence. The choice is yours.
