The story of White's Corner begins in 1817, when Thomas Hopkins, a London shoemaker, was transported at age 18 after being sentenced for 7 years for stealing a coat. After serving time in Van Dieman's Land, Hopkins acquired the land in Bothwell in the 1830s where he built his cottage and started a business. In 1842, John White bought the dwelling and associated buildings. White expanded by building the shopfront and dwelling.
